I have been having discussions lately on “overnight success”. You know, this myth that some of us are made successful overnight? For some, this does not look like a myth: success appears extremely fast in a given realm – I have been there myself in specific areas of my life.
Overnight success – a myth?
People mostly do not see that even these “overnight successes” are built on numerous failures from the past. Sometimes, in the very realm at hand (e.g., failing at getting a following for years before finally getting one superfast), sometimes in a totally other one (e.g., failing at something, learning your lesson, and trying something new with the experience you have built in the previous experience).
The truth is, there is no absolute “overnight success”. There is plenty of accumulated experience leading to a happy outcome. And you know what? There is a surprising reason behind it!
Getting ready for success
“In order to be successful, you need to fail”. Many people repeat this saying without understanding what it means. You do not only need failures to succeed because you need to accumulate experience to be great. It tends to prove true, but it is not everything there is to know. You need failure to build up character.
The truth is that when you arrive at the paroxysm of success… things get hard! I am sure most people believe that the struggle is prior to success, and that from there things get easier. Let me tell you it is not true. The more successful I grow, the tougher life gets… and so do I! I know many successful entrepreneurs and politicians, and everyone has the same speech: it is tough at the top.
Naturally, right now you may be struggling financially and envying these people. But then, you grow up there, and realise that there are so many struggles waiting for you – new skills to develop (e.g., investing, managing), new powerful opponents, and so much more. You need to fail to get to the top so that you build up the necessary skills and character which allow you to stay at the top.
I hope this post, though being a hard truth, may open your eyes to the true reason behind your current suffering. It could even, I hope, get you even more excited about your next failures and incoming success – there is a reason for all of this, never doubt it. You are building the person you need to be to handle your approaching success. ♡
